7 Health Trends for 2020

I truly thought 2020 was going to be THE YEAR for all things good and exciting!  Unfortunately, it has turned into a total “shit show” of extreme proportions!  But many positive things came from the pandemic.  Time with family, slowing down in general and people getting more exercise and reflecting on their health!  I have to say, the one thing that is disappointing is that the mainstream media IS NOT talking about is how to create a STRONGER immune system to help in the PREVENTION of disease.  Shouldn’t we be trying to prevent getting sick rather than promoting untested vaccines??  Personal opinion of course!  But I am all about getting and staying healthy from the inside out!  So lets review 7 Health Trends for 2020!

Eating Quality Food Over Calorie Counting

First up is our eating habits!  We have discovered that eating QUALITY foods is more important than counting calories.  So fill your diet with lots of fruits, veggies and ancient grains.  Legumes are very good for you too! Eating better is the key to better health!

We should be mindful of what we eat and start taking into account how what we eat makes us FEEL.  Not just counting calories.  Exercising to lose weight and to burn more calories than what you intake is not always the answer.  We can eat significantly more food if what we are eating is of the highest quality and nutrition.  Don’t get me wrong, I like my sweets and I love making meals that may not be entirely “healthy” but one of the fastest growing trends in 2020 is eating foods that give you more bang for your buck nutritionally!  That will also help strengthen your immune system too! And that should make us all want to eat healthier!

Take a look at some of the scientifically proven benefits of fruits and veggies:

  • Supports a healthy immune system
  • Supports lung function
  • Contributes to cardiovascular wellness
  • Helps maintain healthy DNA
  • Reduces oxidative stress
  • Supports healthy skin and gums

And that is just to name a few!

We can get whatever we need straight from mother nature, but with today’s lifestyles and now the pandemic that isn’t always easy!  CLICK HERE to find out how I keep my families health at the top of its game!  Especially this year, you may not be able to get everything you need from the grocery store, but I can help with bridging the gap with what you are eating and what you should be eating!

food is not just calories. it is information it talks to your DNA and tells it what to do

Food Sensitivity Testing

Now this is something I really need to do!  I love dairy, but it doesn’t always love me!  But that is ok, because I intend to take a food sensitivity test so I can find out what exactly my body needs.  And what it doesn’t like.  Now this IS NOT an allergy test.  But it can give you the results of up to 204 different foods and your bodies immune response to them!  For example: food sensitivities can contribute to migraines, joint pain, skin issues, gastrointestinal distress, and other symptoms. Finding the symptom-causing foods isn’t always easy, a Food Sensitivity Test makes it easier by giving you useful information that can help guide you for a temporary elimination diet.  And I don’t see this trend going away anytime soon!

There are two different tests that I would recommend.  One will test for 96 different foods and the other for 204.  Order HERE via AMAZON!

Healthy, Glowing Skin

Did you know that skin care sales have surpassed cosmetic sales?  To me, that is amazing!  Skin care is a BILLION dollar business!  Everyone wants healthy, beautiful skin.  And they want it without toxins.  The FDA has not done a good job in preventing companies from adding toxins to their products.  However, there are some great companies who want nothing more than to keep you healthy in ALL areas of your life.   That includes no toxins in your skin or hair care!

When combining a healthy diet and the right skin products to your daily routine and your skin will glow from within!  And isn’t that what every woman wants?

Working Out From Home

Working Out From Home, Yeah or Nah?

Because of my husband’s business, we have always worked out at home.  And we LOVE our Peloton bike.   We have had it for almost 2 years and we ride it regularly.  Of course during our high season we drop a little in frequency, however, during the pandemic, we were all set!  So between walking the dogs and riding several times per week, we get our fair share of exercise.  But the new trend is either working out from home or a hybrid.  Many could not work out (at their local gym) for 2-3 months due to Covid and had to find other alternatives.  So there is Peloton, the Mirror is also very popular and so much more.  You just need to find what works best for you!

I personally do not like having to go to a gym.  So I was not affected at all by the closing of gyms due to health concerns.  But now that we are back up and open, it is time to decide whether you want to be caught without options in case there is a next time!

Rest, is it Still Obtainable?

With everything going on in our society (especially in 2020!) is rest actually obtainable? I would like to think so.  We bought a Sleep Number bed in March of this year when everything started  going into lockdown.  When we finally had it delivered, it took some adjusting but we sleep better now than ever before.  Even with the stresses of the outside world.  And getting a good night’s sleep is so important to overall health.

Do you know what circadian biology is?  It is all about our sleep cycle!  And don’t worry, I didn’t know what is was either!  To put it in layman terms, it is our bodies natural time clock!  Our body normally sleeps 8 hours and is awake for 16.  Health issues related to circadian rhythms include jet lag, shift work and seasonal depression.  And that is just to name a few!  So we want to keep our sleep cycle normal and be as rested as possible when we wake up!  So do your research and figure out what can provide YOU with a better night’s sleep!

Self-Care, Essential or Indulgent?

Personally, I truly believe self-care is essential.  Especially in this day and age.  Busy women (so basically ALL women) are realizing that “me time” is a necessity and NOT a luxury.  How are we going to take care of our families if we can’t even take care of ourselves?  So you should never feel selfish about taking a “time out” to pamper yourself.  Because we need to be at our best to keep our families going!

Take a look at my post on self care ideas you can do that don’t cost a fortune and some are actually FREE! Be kind to yourself, and every week take a little me time to regenerate and revive!  Self care isn’t just trending, it is here to stay!

7 Health Trends for 2020

Mental and Spiritual Health

I think everyone can agree, 2020 has kicked everyone’s mental health into the gutter.  I have anxiety issues and from Covid to murder hornets to racial wars to defunding police, my anxiety level has been off the charts.  And I usually have a pretty good handle on my emotions and anxiety.  But this was the year that I truly struggled with all of it.  And I know I am not the only one!  But this is the year people are taking back their mental health and looking for something to believe in.  Whether that is God, Budha or just a higher power, people are searching for the meaning of life.

I honestly wish we could start 2020 all over again.  And maybe it will turn out a little better.  Although I have my doubts, it is an election year! But I work hard on my mental health and I have been doing spirituality and mindset work for several years now.  And it works! I fact, it works so well that I was able to pull myself out of a hole more than once during our 2 months of lockdown.

Even the University of New Hampshire recognizes spiritual health and includes the following as important to keep your mental health and spirituality in check:

  • Develop a purpose in life
  • Take time to reflect on life events and their meanings
  • Care for others
  • Practice forgiveness and compassion

These are just a few of the things you can do to strengthen your spirituality.  And don’t forget, depression and stress can compromise your immune system.  So you want to do everything you can to keep a positive attitude and leave the stress and anxiety behind!

Conclusion

Of the 7 Health Trends for 2020, I think the most important is taking care of our mental health.  I keep thinking, what else could 2020 throw at us???  But my hope is that things will calm down, people can start getting along and although we will have a new normal, I am hopeful that it is better than it was before!  Spread kindness like it is confetti and strengthen your immune system from the inside!  That is what is most important in this day and age!  I hope you agree!  Take a look at last years trends!  5 Health and Wellness Trends for 2019!  My how things have changed!

I truly agree that the most important thing is to work up our immunity than just panicking around, and waiting for vaccines.

Yoga and breathing exercises have worked magic for me, and I can’t emphasize enough on natural ways of dealing with this pandemic.

Such a lovely post! Each tip resonates with me. 🙂

I didn’t realize these things were trendy, but I am definitely keeping up with most of the items on this list! I have a total skincare addiction, have been trying to eat more fresh produce, and have put an extra focus on my mental health this year. Great list!
