I may be a little bias, but Oceanside is not only where my oldest child lives, but also an amazing place to visit. Our first visit to Oceanside my hubby told me that there wasn’t much that was impressive about Oceanside. So I was a little nervous when looking for Hotels in Oceanside California. But I am happy to say, we have found a great place with two wonderful ocean front hotels and an area that has tons of activities!
Seabird Resort Oceanside
My hubby’s warning about Oceanside was due to his last visit in the 80’s when he was in the Marine Corps. He was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find that the ocean front hotel was not only only a couple years old, but absolutely beautiful. It is a Hyatt property and it is exceptional. And much of the area has been redone to entice families and tourists.
Amenities at the Seabird Resort
There is a roof top pool with bar and restaurant area. I have to admit the service was nonexistent, but the view was beautiful. They also have a full service spa, room service, gym and a “library”. There were also two other restaurants on site. And a beautiful ballroom and conference areas.
Standard Ocean Front Room
We decided to get an ocean front room. If you decide to do this, be sure to get a room on an “upper’ floor. We were on the second floor and could hear the cars passing by during the night. Otherwise, the room was spacious and well appointed. We had robes to use during our visit, a safe in the closet and a gorgeous view of the beach. The room was beautiful and the decor of the entire resort was definitely “seaside” which I love.
Seabird Resort Overall
With the exception of slow service at the pool area and restaurant, we had a great stay. This is definitely fashioned more for families, but it is beautiful and would stay here again. Another perk of this hotel is you receive free water bottles in your room for the Ph balanced water dispensaries all around the resort. This was a life saver as we always seem to buy tons of bottled water while we are on vacation! Now onto the second hotel in Oceanside California I think you will enjoy!
Mission Pacific Hotel
The Mission Pacific Hotel is across the street and the “sister” hotel to the Seabird. Another newer hotel in Oceanside California. It is a Hyatt resort and I think it is actually nicer than the Seabird. And I loved the Seabird! But the Mission Pacific has a Polynesian vibe and is more geared to adults rather than families. Again we had an ocean front room, but we were on the sixth floor, not the second. It made a world of difference and we could hear the ocean waves over anything else. There is also a courtyard between us and the street below. At the Seabird, we were right on top of the street.
Standard Ocean Front Room
Our room again was over sized and beautiful. We also got water bottles for the Ph balanced water that was available in many areas of the hotel. We had a view of the ocean, pier and the back of the Top Gun House. There was more room to move at this hotel too. Meaning, there was a lot more open space here where you could have an outdoor event or wedding.
Amenities
The Mission Pacific has all the same amenities as the Seabird. But I have to admit, the service was excellent and their roof top bar was FABULOUS! The drinks were fast and strong. The food was delish and they had a DJ playing great music. We could not have asked for a better place to enjoy happy hour our first night there!
Top Gun House
If you are a fan of Top Gun, you will understand what I mean by “Top Gun House”. The main love interest Charlie had a house across from the Pier in Oceanside (in the original movie) and the house has been restored with a dessert shop in it. The Mission Pacific is literally built around the house! It was fun to go to the house but I would suggest skipping the “High Pie” desserts. Over priced and not that good. They had some specialty drinks that looked good, but definitely skip the pies!
Things to do!
There is a ton of things to do in the Oceanside area. Whether you decide to go to the pier, play volleyball on the beach or hang out by the pool, you will never be bored! This trip we took the ferry to Catalina Island! And it was a wonderful! We got the ferry from Newport Beach which is about an hour north of Oceanside.
More About Catalina
Once we arrived on Catalina Island we rented a golf cart for 2 hours to explore. That is the easiest way to get around and there are two golf cart companies when you get off the ferry. Make sure you have CASH for the golf cart rental. The deposit has to be cash, which at the time of this post was $60 and $60 for each additional hour. Additional hours can be charged to a credit card. Two hours was plenty of time to explore. Then we shopped, had lunch and the next thing we knew it was time to take the ferry back! Catalina Island was beautiful but make sure you reserve your ferry tickets early, they sell out fast! And be prepared to pay, they were $75 each for a round trip.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this post on Hotels in Oceanside California! I love visiting my son and will be sad when he moves. But for the time being, we will enjoy our visits and appreciate the beauty of the California coast!

These are all beautiful places. I love the resort, but I think I’d have to stay at the Top Gun house. It’s one of my all-time favorite movies. I literally heard the music in my head when I saw the house. LOL
