Sometimes, we can fall into a mundane routine, where it seems like we’re endlessly cycling through the same tasks and every day feels the same. If this is happening to you, then you may benefit from a vacation. Apart from being incredibly fun, freeing, and rewarding, vacations can do wonders for your mental health. And as I am making my vacation plans for this year, I started thinking about how much trips (even just long weekends) assist in keeping my mental health in check! Let’s take a look at why a vacation could be the jumpstart you need to get back on your feet and start smiling again! There are so many Benefits of Traveling!
The Benefits of Traveling
♦ If we don’t see enough sunlight, we risk our mood dropping significantly. This can have a detrimental effect on your mental health and make you crave warmer climates where you can be exposed to more daylight. As human beings, we require the Vitamin D that sunlight gives us. And lets be real, blue skies are always nice too!
♦ If you go somewhere warm, or at least with more hours of sunlight, then you will find your mood
lifting. You will be physically soaking in vitamin D, while also improving your mental health. This may
make you feel more positive and give you a real spring in your step. My hubby and I work outside most of the year, and I vow that the vitamin D we soak up not only helps our attitudes but also our health!
♦You can evaluate your life. A vacation can give you the opportunity to escape from the grind of life and enjoy some peace, quiet, and solitude. This is always welcome!
♦ You can take time to evaluate your life choices, the people you surround yourself with, and consider whether you are truly happy.
♦ Take some time to remind yourself of the goals you’ve set and consider how you might get your passion back. Taking time to think about what you want can be wonderfully beneficial for your mental health.
Advantages of Traveling
♦ Go and explore sights and see how different cultures live. Try new food and immerse yourself in local culture as you both educate yourself and free your mind. I love looking at architecture. When we went to Paris my favorite thing to do was to look at the buildings and bridges. With London on the horizon in October, I am hoping to wander again like we did in Paris! Who needs excursions when I love looking and taking pictures all day? Do what you love!
♦ By doing something new, you’ll find a significant improvement in your mental health, as you will be taking yourself out of your comfort zone and trying something different!
Meet New People
♦You can make new friends. Traveling, both on a short term or a long term basis, lets you meet new people who can lift your spirits, give you a new outlook on life, and give you the opportunity to share your stories and experiences with others. I have met and befriended so many people over the years!
♦ As humans, we are social creatures so free your mind and let yourself enjoy the company of others as you all immerse yourselves in a new adventure.
♦Self-satisfaction. Going on vacation, finding somewhere new, meeting new people, and experiencing new sights and cultures can be a huge achievement.
♦ Instead of just talking about a vacation, plan one. The act of pushing yourself to do something new
will give you a significant emotional boost as you will be proud of yourself and full of self-confidence. You will be taking control of your life and making personalized choices to suit your well being.
The Importance of Travel Insurance
I never used to purchase travel insurance. That is until C0vid. We had a trip planned for September of 2020 that was canceled due to the pandemic and I didn’t lose all my money, but I lost well over $1000. So now I always purchase refundable tickets or travel insurance. If you are looking for travel insurance or someone to book your travel, please reach out to my friend Josie. She always does a fabulous job!
Conclusion
It doesn’t matter if you go somewhere hot or you prefer a skiing vacation. Taking time to reflect, recharge, and look after yourself. Vacations cheer you up and put a smile back on your face. And don’t assume you cannot relax with a “staycation”! Being home and relaxing, working on a passion/home project or doing day trips are all things that can help with your mental health and attitude too! So are you ready to get going now that you know the Benefits of Traveling?
Above all, thank you for spending your time here at Colorado Kelly! I love having you here and appreciate everyone that comes to visit and look forward to having you come back soon!
