Due to my son being an officer in the service and my daughter as an OR nurse, we tend to celebrate Thanksgiving early! It is always so good to have both my babies under the same roof! So I pull out all the stops and make an AMAZING feast of turkey and Honey Baked Ham. With all the fixings of course! But my family has always LOVED my stuffing recipe. So I wanted to share with you what we consider to be The BEST Turkey Stuffing Recipe for this Holiday!
Never the same!
It is funny as I never make the stuffing the same way twice, it is always similar, but I usually go rogue and try new things all the time to mix things up. This is by far the tastiest recipe I have made and I think it is different than the “main stream” versions of turkey stuffing, or dressing, as some would call it. But lets get started on the most AMAZING turkey stuffing ever!
Best Bread for Stuffing!
In this recipe I used bagged herb cubed stuffing mix. However, I have made it with a combination of half cornbread and cubed. I have also made my own sour dough cubes. But cutting up fresh bread then baking always seems to be little harder and never quite as tasty as when I used the bagged bread cubes. But you do whatever you love best. I am a big fan of trying different variations of recipes to find what you love most!
Other Ingredient Variations to Try
I use apples and cranberries in my turkey stuffing recipe, however, I have also been known to use dried or fresh blueberries. I have also used dried cherries. When using blueberries, sourdough or cornbread I like best. When using cried cherries, sourdough or the herb stuffing cubes has a really nice flavor!
The BEST Turkey Stuffing Recipe for this Holiday
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Pork Sausage *use Chorizo if you would like more of a spicy "kick"
- 1 12 oz Bag Herb Seasoned Stuffing Mix
- 2 cans Chicken Broth *This makes the stuffing very moist, if you want it a little drier, use a little less chicken broth
- 4 tbsp Butter
- 1 medium Apple *I used a Honey Crisp Apple. Feel free to cut up 2 apples if you desire more apples!
- 1/2 medium Yellow Onion
- 3 Celery Stalks, Diced
- 1/2 cup Dried Cranberries *optional, I sometimes use more too!
- 2 TBSP Rosemary Seasoning Mix *If you don't have the Rosemary Seasoning Mix, combine garlic power, dried rosemary, thyme and salt/pepper to taste for a substitute.
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. Grease 9x9 baking dish. 9x13 inch dish if you are not stuffing your turkey. Set dishes aside.
- Chop and core the apple, chop the celery and half the onion. Set aside until ready to cook.
- In a large pan, cook sausage over medium heat, until no longer pink and crumbly. Set aside.
- Melt butter in pan (over medium heat) then add the onion and celery. Cook for about 2-3 minutes then add the apple pieces and cranberries. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes. Add sausage and stir until combined.
- Sprinkle seasoning mix and salt/pepper to taste over the mixture. And mix again until combined.
- Add stuffing cubes and mix thoroughly. Then slowly add 3 cups of chicken broth a little at a time so it is evenly distributed though out the mixture. Cook over medium heat for 5-10 min until all the broth is absorbed.
- Place in baking dish and bake for 25-30 minute at 425 degrees. If you are using a 9x13 inch pan, you will only need to cook for 20-30 minutes. Use a smaller pan and you may have to cook a little longer. Top should be browned and have a slight crisp to it! Then enjoy!
Conclusion
This is definitely The BEST Turkey Stuffing Recipe for this Holiday in my family’s opinion! Some other ways you can alter this recipe is to add 3/4 cups of chopped pecans! That is another way I have altered my recipe or delete the cranberries! Either way, I believe you and your family will thoroughly enjoy this yummy side dish!
