Thank you for bringing that to my attention! This is a family recipe from my great, great Grandmother! And she added the shortening to the sugar and eggs. Which I corrected on the recipe!!!! But I am sure either way would give it the extra moisture it needs! I hope it turned out delicious!

I noticed you call for 3 Tbs shortening in your ingredients list, but no mention of it in the directions. I’ve made my Moms recipe, for date nut bread, and just happen to know that you add the shortening in with the boiling water that you pour over the date and nut mixture. Is this correct for your recipe as well?
