Empire State Building Tour
Heading to NYC to tour the Empire State Building? Be sure to check out my experience before you do! And I will give you the lowdown on what to do AND not do!
General Information
Located at 350 5th Ave in New York City, the Empire State Building is open from 8 am to 2 am 365 days a year. If you buy your ticket on-line, it is good for one admission for 365 days from the date of purchase. If you buy it on site at the building, it is only good for 14 days from the date of purchase. Everything is general admission and can be subject to early closure due to high volume or weather.
The conservatory decks
There are two decks to choose from. The first and most popular is the 86th floor open air conservatory deck. It is lovely. With views of the city in every direction, it was worth every penny of the $38 per ticket. There is no pressure from any of the staff to get in and out quickly, so take your time and stroll the deck and take lots of pictures! The second deck you can purchase a ticket for is for the 102nd floor enclosed observatory deck. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
It is a much smaller area and there isn’t a lot to see that you already saw on the 86th floor. And at an additional $20 per person, we were very disappointed. We couldn’t even get nice pictures as the glass obscured the view. As you can see, we had a partially cloudy day and still had fabulous views of the city!
Food and Souvenir Shop
Additionally, on the 80th floor there is an excellent and well stocked store to purchase a variety of items. They had everything from shirts, to Christmas ornaments to key chains. So you have your pick of what you would like to purchase! The restaurants seemed very pricey so we choose not to dine, however, it may be worth a visit to dine in the evening above the stars! Or what seems like above the stars!
Overall, we had a great time visiting the building. It is a significant amount of money for what seems like a short period of time, however, it is definitely something everyone who visits NYC has to do at least once!
More importantly, thank you for spending your time here at Colorado Kelly! I love having you here and appreciate everyone that comes to visit and look forward to having you come back soon!
