Faith over Fear
At almost 50 years old, I decided to start a blog. The original intention was to have it as a resource for the products I sell. Giving value back to my clients, offering some fun and interesting articles and creating yummy recipes. However, this has taken on a life of its own. I did not realize until I started writing, how I did not have a creative outlet. And I am a creative person naturally. I used to love to scrapbook, I love to cook, garden, the whole shebang!
Somewhere along the way, I lost myself. I lost myself in my kids, my husband’s business, my MLM business and forgot to take care of myself. How many of you can relate to that? The last 3-4 years have definitely been a time of growth for me, but the last year in particular was an eye opener in which my fears and anxiety bubbled over into something I never thought possible. My fear definitely became bigger than my faith. I was doing something outside my comfort zone, and I wasn’t sure how to handle it. I forgot to have faith over fear.
To Overcome Fear You Need To Stop Controlling Everything
I have had many struggles with my fears, my latest fear was videos. I hate FB live, Youtube, all of it. But I was being told I needed to start doing videos. Ones that I would embed in the blog posts to help with creating more traffic and interest. I thought my head was going to explode. Seriously, I will be 50 this March, what business do I have doing Youtube videos?? Apparently, a lot of people felt I should be doing them. So my fear sky rocketed, along with my anxiety. What a lovely sight it was. (Can you detect sarcasm?)
So I created a darn Youtube channel, and it took 2-3 weeks before I actually did my first video. But I let go of the control I so ferociously needed in my life and just did it. And guess what, I lived another day and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be! But I had to let go of control to make it happen.
Conquering Your Fears
I am being completely honest when I say it took 57 takes (yes, 57) before I felt I had something I wanted to share. And my voice still cracks, I stutter, I think my hair is flat and I really need to work on those facial expressions! But I did it! I finally refused to let my fears be greater than my faith. Granted, I only have 2 videos up on the channel (so far!) but I will definitely be working on more. And perfecting this crazy social media stuff as best as I can. I felt like I was going to vomit, literally. But I kept at it until I was comfortable with what I had.
What it came down to was that I have dreams that are bigger than my fears. I decided I was not going to let my fears rob me of what I wanted for my future. I decided, it was worth taking the risk and doing the damn videos. Letting go of and NOT trying to control everything is the best thing we can do for ourselves. Because sometimes to follow our dreams we need to stray from the path we have carefully mapped out for ourselves. Again, I wasn’t practicing faith over fear.
A Work in Progress
Here is my very first video ever! It gives people an opportunity to get to know me better. And realize I am a real person, that doesn’t always get it right the first time! In conclusion, I want people to know, if I can overcome my fears and start on a new path, anyone can. Don’t let your fears get in the way of whatever dreams you have. Although I have had many hurdles during this journey, I will never let my fears get in the way of success again!!! And neither should you!
