Girl Code Book Review

Girl Code

Girl Code is an amazing book written by Cara Alwill Leyba.  I stumbled upon this book because of a beautiful friend who gave it to me for my birthday.  And I could not thank this amazing woman more for introducing me to Girl Code!  This is an easy to read book full of amazing women who believe in lifting each other up, rather than tearing each other down.  Although I have always tried to embrace this philosophy, this book brings it to a whole new level!  There are 9 chapters filled with interviews of amazing women, inspirational quotes and extra credit sections. The “extra credit” sections are areas for review, reflections and your personal take-away from each chapter.

New women to admire & draw inspiration from

I always knew women are amazing but Girl Code introduced me to women I would have never know about or been inspired by had I not read it.  From Alicia DiMichele (Mob Wives star and entrepreneur) to Consolee Nishimwe (survivor of genocide in Rwanda) this book is stocked full of wonderful interviews with the most inspiring women.

My Personal Take-away

Girl Code was a book I needed to read.  Therefore, I read it at the perfect time in my life.  With building my own brand and an unexpected accident AND surgery for my husband, my life was in a tailspin.  But this book got me grounded again.  I was finally told, it is “ok” to change your circle of friends sometimes. Because we need to have women with the same desires, dreams and goals around us to succeed.

My Favorite Quotes

quoteMy two favorite quotes from this book were: “Insecurity competes. Confidence empowers.” “We all have the same hours in a day. It’s how you choose to spend them that counts.  There is always a choice.” And she is right!  I can’t make someone want to succeed, it is THEIR CHOICE.  And when I am feeling insecure is when I can be “catty”.   And “catty” is never pretty, so being confident 100% of the time is where I will be heading from now on!
