How Do You Know?
Self preservation is an interesting thing. I am not a therapist, nor do I have a degree in social work or psychology. However, I have been “around the block” a few times and have experienced more than once, the need to shed either toxic situations or people from my life. Some have evolved naturally, others have been done with precision. Either way, when these types of situations come up, you really need to let go, move on and don’t try “fixing” it. So here are my experiences of knowing when to shed toxicity.
Toxic People
It takes all types of people for the world to go round. And there are some people who on the surface seem very nice. And you may not be able to pinpoint why you are questioning their place in your life. But if you are questioning it for any reason, then you really need to take it a step further and look deep into why your instincts are kicking in. Your gut is never wrong. For me, I have had people that I thought were fun then something that I considered minor would happen and they would “blow up”. Seriously, if someone is not on the same page as you as to what is minor vs major, don’t try to rekindle the relationship/friendship.
Life is too short to walk on eggshells because someone else sees the world much differently than you. Look for and surround yourself with people who are positive, generous and have the same ethical agenda. Remember, you reflect the 5 people you associate with the most. So keep the bar high!
Toxic Situations
Sometimes we get into toxic situations without even realizing it! Seriously, have you ever been in a situation and not even realized you were dealing with someone who on the surface was “nice” but their passive/aggressive behavior was driving you crazy?? And you didn’t even realize it until after months of it happening! Trust me, I have been there. Sometimes we want to believe someone has our best interests in mind, but then we have a “eureka” moment and realize, no they do not. Passive/aggressive people are a smarmy bunch. They tell you great job or that is awesome! Then in the next breath they are telling you, don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t work, or you don’t waste your time on that follow up.
Whatever the situation is, if someone is saying “that is great” then throwing in a negative jab, they are a passive/aggressive a$$ that you need to eject from your life! Seriously, who needs that? I am a very strong willed, self motivated person. And I believe for the most part, I have my crap in order. Both personally and business. But even I fell into that trap, and if I can, anyone can! Get rid of them and the situation. Seriously, I cannot say this enough, never let someone else’s insecurities get in the way of your own success and personal happiness. Remember to keep the bar high with those you surround yourself with!
In Conclusion
Again, these are some of my situations and experiences. But I can tell you, after the initial hurt and resentment subsides, you will feel as though a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders! Your life will become lighter and more positive. And things that you doubted or never thought possible will start happening. Having a positive attitude and energy attracts more positive situations and light into your life! Living the life you want is worth the struggle to get there. Sometimes, we don’t always handle a situation correctly, but honestly, as long as the outcome is what you needed, then all is good in your world!
