Omni Berkshire Hotel
My daughter and I were attending a wedding on the east coast this June and decided to take a “side trip”! Not to dis New Jersey, but if I am going to fly east, I might as well take a trip into New York City while I am there! It is nicknamed the city that never sleeps for a reason! When traveling to NYC we always stay at the Omni Berkshire Hotel! It is nestled in between 5th Ave and Madison Ave at 21 E 52nd Street. So be sure to bring money to spend, it is hard to resist all the beautiful stores that surround the Omni Berkshire Hotel!
Rooms and Loyalty Program
We have stayed at the Omni several times and have had 2 types of rooms. The basic 2 queen bed room and the premium king bed room. The premium king room was the first room available for us to get an early check in. As we got to NYC at 6 a.m., we decided to take what we could get and get a quick nap in! They had us in a room before 10 a.m. Not bad for an early check in! The room was on the 20th floor and had a partial view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It was an over sized room that had a sitting area, desk and a very large wardrobe closet. The bathroom was basic but had a nicely appointed vanity with marble counter tops and floors.
Be sure to sign up for the loyalty program too! You can earn free nights, get free wi-fi and bottled water daily during your stay! It does not cost anything to sign up and took less than 5 minutes!
Things to do!
As there are a significant number of things to do in NYC, I will tell you what we have done on our last two trips. Central Park and the Plaza Hotel are a short walk from the Omni. The Friday morning we were walking in the park, Good Morning America was there with a concert in the park! Bebe Rexha! Had I known, I would have made sure to get there early enough to be in the audience! There is also Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, Broadway shows (we saw the Book of Mormon in 2016 and it was fabulous!) and of course the Empire State Building! But there is so much more! The 9/11 Memorial is fabulous, but be ready to be drained emotionally. And Chelsea Market has over 35 vendors and is approximately a city block! Perfectly located at 75 9th Street, you are in between the Empire State Building and the 9/11 Memorial.
Restaurant Choices
My family and I are foodies! We are not afraid to spend money on eating out, but the food better be good! So here is a bit of advice, don’t eat at Bob’s Steakhouse. It is the hotel restaurant. While waiting for our room we decided to eat breakfast at the the restaurant. For $77 we got french toast, pancakes, a side of sausage and one hot chocolate. And the food was average, at best. So my suggestion for breakfast is to walk around the corner and get a bagel or breakfast burrito at the Europa Cafe at 515 Madison Ave. You will save a chunk of cash!
Dinner choices are a whole other ballgame! There is Del Frisco’s down by the theaters, you always know what you will get there. A little pricey, but well worth it! Another fabulous restaurant where we celebrated my mother’s 75th birthday is Alfredo’s 100. Unfortunately, I found out it closed its doors last year! But my favorite place to eat is at the Fig & Olive. There are three locations throughout the city, however, we ate at the one directly across from the Omni on 52nd. And it was AMAZING! With an exceptional Mediterranean menu, their presentation is beautiful, portions are hardy and the price is more than affordable! And the Peach Sangria is exceptional!
Overall Experience
Overall, I can honestly say we have never had a bad experience at the Omni. The staff is always gracious and the accommodations are 5 star. And at this particular hotel, the location cannot be beat. We walked just about everywhere including Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Empire State Building, Broadway and more! Should you decide to try it, I hope you love it as much as we did!
