The Sebastian Hotel, Vail, CO
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Sebastian Hotel in Vail, CO to enjoy the fall colors and celebrate the end of another great season for his business. After 19 seasons in the commercial lawn maintenance and landscaping business, we take advantage of the times we can get away!
The Sebastian Hotel is located at 16 Vail Road in the heart of Central Vail Village. It was a new resort for my husband and I as we normally stay at the Sonnenalp Resort which is only steps away. As part of the Timber Resort Group, if you really like it, you can become an owner!
Location, Location, Location!
The location is exceptional. Only steps from the free bus line and a short walk to the slopes, you are within easy access to just about everything. In the summers you are able to visit the farmer’s market and there is an abundance of restaurants, shops and entertainment. And it has immediate access to the highway off the Interstate 70, both east and west bound.
Room Accommodations
Upon check in we had the lovely surprise of having our room upgraded to a suite! Which was lovely! With an over sized living area that had a couch, table and second bathroom, we could not ask for more. The room had many amenities of upscale resorts, and then some! Free slippers were provided with luxurious spa robes to wear while staying at the resort. They also provided free soda and water. We even had the pleasure of eating their trail mixes. No snack purchases needed while we were there! It was all included to our surprise!
At turn down each night we had a fresh bottle of water and a yummy homemade snack! Our first night there is was brownies and on the second night homemade sugar cookies! We also had personal loofah sponges. Which was a first for us!
All the upscale touches were great, however, our room faced the highway. Remember when I said there was easy access to the highway? Well, when your room is facing the highway, the easy access no longer becomes a positive. Our room was on the third floor, so our view was not great, but we also didn’t actually see the highway do to the Aspen and evergreen trees lining the side of the road. Unfortunately, when we opened the door to the balcony, it sounded as though all the trucks and cars were coming directly through the room. Even at night. It was not until after midnight that the traffic slowed down, but I would suggest, always request a room that faces away from the highway if staying here. Unless of course you are a sound sleeper!
AMENITIES
The resort had some amazing amenities! The pool was divine, even at the end of September! After a long walk after breakfast we spent the afternoon enjoying the pool, drinking margaritas and eating chips and salsa. It was one of the most relaxing afternoons we have had in a long time!
There was a child play area on the second floor full of different toys and games for young children and toddlers.
And if you are looking for a wedding venue or a place to host a conference, this place was amazing! They had beautiful terraces and conference rooms to accommodate most average size weddings.
There was also a beautifully appointed library that had a coffee bar, local and national newspapers and a variety of books to choose from. With beautiful works of art, leather furniture and game tables, this was a great place to go either before our morning walk or when we returned from our evening out.
There were two eateries on site at the hotel, but as we enjoy going out on the town to eat dinner, we did not have the opportunity to try either. But their menus had a nice selection of food and both looked like fabulous eateries!
Local Eateries We Enjoy!
Anyone who knows us well, know we love to eat out. We are “low key” foodies. We like nice restaurants, but we definitely don’t go outside our box when trying new menu items. So we are working on that and had a wonderful experience at both the Sweet Basil Restaurant and Mountain Standard for our diners. Of the two eateries, Sweet Basil is for the more mature diner. Well appointed and upscale, we had a table on the outdoor eating area with a beautiful view of the creek that runs through the heart of Vail. Our food was amazing! We had lobster pots stickers for an appetizer that were fantastic! And for dinner we had the cod & cockles and hazelnut & quinoa risotto, both absolutely delicious! Mountain Standard was also very good, however, it is more geared towards families. But if you go, you have to try the sea salt buttermilk biscuit with ham and peppered jelly! It is amazing!!
Our favorite Breakfast place is definitely The Little Diner in Lionshead! Lionshead is part of Vail and on the bus route. But it is an easy walk from center village too. It is on the west side of Vail and has amazing shops, eateries and hotels. It also has a gondola and is home of the Berry Picker Trail which will take you up to the top of the mountain and you can then hop a ride down on the gondola!
The Little Diner had a recent make over and is a great place for breakfast or lunch! With a “counter” feel and the ability to see all the food being prepared while sitting at the counter, it is a great place to go to enjoy an abundance of food for a great price! I love the mixed grill, it is amazing and I can never eat the entire serving!
Overall Rating
As everyone knows, Vail is one of our favorite vacation spots. For us, it is close enough to home that we can hop in the car at a moments notice and take a break from our day to day grind.
As for the Sebastian Hotel & Resort, it was an amazing place to stay, however, be sure to request a room that is not facing the highway. No matter how well appointed the room is, the noise level is not worth it. 5 Stars on accommodations, 1 star for noise level! When requesting reservations you need to be sure to request a room not facing the highway!
Hotels.com is the only hotel website I use! It is a great way to save money. And when you stay 10 nights, you get one night FREE!
